Mercury Mobility and m.Net to merge

ASX listed mobile content specialist, Mercury Mobility (ASX: MMY) is to merge with m.Net Corporation to produce "a new generation of mobile expertise and capabilities, targeting global mobile carriers, media companies and content and brand owners," and with their respective shareholders each holding about 50 percent of the merged entity.

Nokia N85 joins Telstra's Next G brigade

Although 2100MHz 3.5G networks have the widest range of 3G handsets available for it, the 850MHz network (as used by Telstra, AT&T, Rogers and others) still has all the major players making top models working on the frequency, with the N85 (arguably better than the N96) now joining the line-up.

Nokia Comes With Music, ten million tracks of it

Nokia has signed a licensing deal with the Australasian Performing Right Association and the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society that will enable it to offer access to more than ten million music tracks on its soon-to-be-launched Comes With Music service.

Nokia has signed up Australian independent label Liberation Music for its Comes With Music service, soon to be launched in Australia, and has announced a new phone that will offer the CWM service.

No doubt set to issue a similar statement for New Year’s Eve SMS text messages, Telstra says that Christmas Day SMS text messaging and video calling will break all previous records. If you thought the 5800 was Nokia’s iPhone clone, the long awaited N-Series version of the 5800 has been outed today at Nokia World in Barcelona, and it’s the N97!
